The South Korean adaptation of Doctor Foster has now become the highest-rated drama in the nation’s cable TV history. The World of the Married has received critical acclaim since it was first broadcast in March 2020, and has now secured a nationwide viewer share of 24.3%.

The original Doctor Foster, written by Mike Bartlett and produced by Drama Republic for BBC One, starred Surrane Jones as the title character and Bertie Carvel as her husband. Jones won a BAFTA for Best Leading Actress for her performance. The South Korean series has stayed largely faithful to the plot of the original series, following a woman’s suspicion that her husband is having an affair, which quickly unravels her previously picture-perfect life.

As of May 2020, Doctor Foster has been re-made in South Korea, France, Russia, and India, and other international versions are forthcoming.
