Mike Bartlett’s stylish and complex psychological thriller was the highest-rating new show of 2015. The show’s second season was broadcast in Autumn 2017. More than 10 million viewers tuned in for the final episodes of both seasons, which also boasted an average viewership of over 8 million each.

Doctor Gemma Foster (played by Suranne Jones) is a woman in control: a respected GP at the heart of her village, a woman people can trust.  But her life is about to explode.  When she suspects her husband (played by Bertie Carvel) has been having an affair, she’s determined to find out the truth.

Gemma throws herself into an investigation that will propel her, her family, and even some of her patients, into chaos.  Bit by bit, Doctor Foster uncovers secrets that shock her to the core.  Now she has to choose how to react.  And one thing is certain – she is going to behave in ways she could never have imagined.

Season 2 is set two years later,as Gemma’s life is destabilised once again when Simon returns.

Other cast include Jodie Comer, Tom Taylor, Neil Stuke, Victoria Hamilton, Thusitha Jayasundera, Sara Stewart and Prasanna Puwanarajah.

This is a drama with an intelligent, empowered woman at its centre – one with a huge battle on her hands, both in her personal and professional life.  Gemma’s psychological and emotional journey is complex, compelling, and utterly gripping.

The series won Best Drama at the 2016 Broadcast Awards and National Television Awards, while Suranne Jones won the BAFTA for Best Female Performance. It is now being adapted in France, Russia, Turkey and Latin America.

The series is created and written by Mike Bartlett, directed by Jeremy Lovering. The producer is Kate Crowther and the executive producers are Roanna Benn, Jude Liknaitzky, Mike Bartlett and Greg Brenman for Drama Republic and Matthew Read for the BBC.
